Juan Manuel joined ABG in 2021 and is a patent adviser  in the Engineering & Physics and the Information & Communication Technology (ICT) Departments. His practice focuses on patent prosecution and drafting, opinion work and patentability searches, mainly in the areas of computing, telecommunications, physics, fintech and medtech. He is Spanish Patent and Trademark Agent (2022).

Before joining ABG, he worked on several research projects, related to digital signal processing and ultrasonic evaluation for medical applications, for the University of Granada (2014-2016). Later, he developed his doctoral thesis in the Optics Department of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, thanks to an RST (Research Staff Training) pre-doctoral contract from the Ministry of Economy.

His research was related to new 3D/4D miscroscopy techniques and its applications for non-invasive detection of pathologies. While working on his thesis, Juan Manuel did a pre-doctoral stay at the Photonics, Numerical and Nanosciences Laboratory of the University of Bordeaux. He also served as a professor assistant at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (2016-2020).

Juan Manuel has published papers in peer-reviewed journals (Optics Express, Optics Letters, Biomedical Optics Letters, Scientific Reports, Biomedicine & Pharmacotherapy) and has presented his work at international scientific meetings.

He has completed the Course in European Patent Law, organized by the Center for International Studies on Intellectual Property (CEIPI) of the University of Strasbourg.

Juan Manuel is a native Spanish speaker and he is fluent in English and French.
