The Basque mechanical engineer, Sandra Ortuzar, has joined the ABG Intellectual Property office in the Basque Country as a technical advisor to strengthen the services of our Engineering & Physics area in the region.

Sandra has more than nine years of experience advising Basque companies on intellectual property in the different fields of engineering, such as devices related to biomedicine, mechanical solutions related to sport, such as cycling, and different industrial solutions and processes.

Sandra joins our Engineering, Physics & ICT department, which began its activity in 2004 with Fernando Prieto, partner of our firm. Today, Fernando leads the department in collaboration with fellow partner Pablo Calvo and associate Laura de la Vega. All of them are European Patent Attorneys and have a team made up of engineers from different specialisation, including aeronautical, mechanical, electrical, electronic, information technology, and telecommunications engineering. Its clients include companies and public and private entities of all sizes: from startups or SMEs to innovative multinationals.

The ABG Intellectual Property office in Bilbao opened its doors on 1 March 2015 and its responsible associate is the European Patent Attorney, Iain McGeoch.

We are delighted that Sandra has joined ABG IP, especially at a time when the Basque Country and Navarra are breaking records for patent applications filed with the European Patent Office. Furthermore, engineering has historically been very important in the Basque Country, for example, the machine tool, and there is currently a strong dedication to ICTs; Sandra has a wealth of experience in these areas,” says Iain.

Sandra Ortuzar is the newest member of the ABG IP team, which consists of more than 70 professionals that share a talent and a desire to provide high-quality services to innovative businesses. Sandra’s responsibilities include assisting customers in defining their intellectual property strategy, patent and industrial design prosecution, and application drafting.

Among the languages Sandra speaks, in addition to Spanish and English, is Basque.
