Aeronautical engineer Beatriz García Morillo, new European Patent Attorney in ABG IP

We are pleased to announce that our colleague Beatriz García Morillo has successfully completed the European Qualifying Examination (EQE) which qualifies her as a European Patent Agent (EPA). This accreditation allows her to be a representative in all sorts of proceedings before the European Patent Office (EPO) including the filing of patent applications and participation in opposition procedures, among others.

With Beatriz, our team now has 19 members from diverse backgrounds who can proudly say they passed one of the most difficult professional exams, demonstrating their in-depth understanding of European Patent Law as well as the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), the Paris Convention, the case law set by the Board of Appeal of the EPO, and other pertinent national laws.

Our colleague Beatriz García Morillo became part of ABG IP in 2016 after joining Airbus’ Intellectual Property Department in December 2014. When she was working at that multinational company, she was dedicated to detect patentable inventions, follow up of patent applications and prior art searches.

This aeronautical engineer has progressed in her career in our Engineering and Physics and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) departments since joining ABG Intellectual Property. Additionally, among her accomplishments is the fact that, as Pablo Calvo, a partner at ABG IP, she has been a part of the coordination of the European Patent Law Course since 2018. The programme is run by the Centre for International Intellectual Property Studies (CEIPI) at the University of Strasbourg and the Escuela de Organización Industrial (EOI) in Madrid.

“Having followed Bea’s development from the start, it is incredibly satisfying to witness her success in overcoming the EQE. The EQE is only a “photo finish” that illustrates something that was long ago a reality for me: working alongside Bea gave me the impression that I was working with a patent attorney. This ‘photo’ further blurs the line between my confidence that she would pass the exam and the exam taker’s nervousness and uncertainty. Taking the EQE is a fantastic step towards becoming a respectable professional that requires other additional values and, as Bea also has them all, now it only remains to celebrate her success”, Pablo says.

Fernando Prieto, also a partner of ABG IP and founder of the departments where Beatriz is part, added:

“Today should definitely be a day of celebration. Those of us who have worked in industrial property for a while find it really exciting and a source of great pleasure to witness a colleague succeed on the difficult EQE test. The exhilarating sensation of passing the exam and returning to the time when you may read “non-patent literature” is almost brought back. In particular, if the person is someone like Bea who is always growing and evolving and who has a strong sense of tenacity, the satisfaction is even greater.

This success in clearing the EQE is simply one step forward, and I have no doubt that it will inspire her to start trying for bigger objectives. Bravo, Bea!”

We at ABG IP we are very proud that Beatriz has successfully overcome this demanding professional challenge. Reporting about this accomplishment is also an immense joy because we were able to help her reach this career milestone. In addition to our heartfelt congratulations, we would like to take this opportunity to thank her for her ongoing commitment and effort.

Well done, Beatriz!
