Susana Egusquiaguirre joined ABG in 2023 and is a patent adviser in the Biotechnology & Life Sciences Department. Her practice is focused on patent drafting, prosecution, and opinion work in the area of biotechnology, particularly in relation to molecular and cellular biology, pharmacogenomics, gene therapy, immunology, animal models, and diagnostic methods.

Before she started at ABG, Susana worked as an IP Counsel in the pharmaceutical industry. Her responsibilities included patentability identification and evaluation of the company’s discoveries, preparation of freedom to operate FTO reports and due diligence, or acting as a consultant on patent and scientific papers drafting and prosecution, among others.

During her previous phase as a researcher, Susana worked at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute-Harvard Medical School (Boston), where she studied the pathogenic roles of oncogenic transcription factor STAT3 target genes. In the University of the Basque Country she researched the serotonin antagonists as antitumorals agents in E2F1-overexpressing cells; the use of micro and nanotechnologies for the development of biotechnological products and advance therapy drugs; and nanoparticles encapsulating bioactive peptides or pharmaceutical agents to recover telomerase activity.

She did research stays at the Neurodegenerative Diseases unit of the Instituto de Investigación Hospital 12 de Octubre (Madrid), at the Institute for Biological and Medical Imaging (IBMI) of the Helmholtz Zentrum München (Munich), and at the Instituto de Investigaciones Biomédicas Sols-Morreale, a joint centre from the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC, Madrid) and the Universidad Autónoma of Madrid (UAM).

She has published articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals and has presented her work at international scientific conferences.

Susana is a native Spanish and Basque speaker and is fluent in English.
